Thursday night’s featured game at ATS breaks down the best NHL betting pick of the night in a blockbuster showdown between two Stanley Cup contenders in the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche. It will be a rematch of the team’s recent Avalanche vs Hurricanes affair on November 12, when the Avs won on home ice in Denver in a 4-1 victory that was never close.
Now, the Hurricanes will look to even the score on home ice in the final game between two favorites to win their respective conferences in a potential Stanley Cup Finals preview. The Canes are -125 favorites on the moneyline, while the Avs are +105 underdogs and the total is set at six goals.

Why Bet On The Hurricanes:
✅Home teams dominate the Avs-Canes all-time series. All-time trends aren’t worth much but the home team has won 20 of the 29 games played between the two franchises. The last three games played between the two in 2022 were all also won by the home team.
✅ Colorado are still missing a crop of key contributors in Gabriel Landeskog, Bowen Byram and Valeri Nichuskin amongst others It is tough to replace so many talented players with fill-ins, especially on the road.
✅ Carolina concede far fewer shots than the Avalanche. The Canes rank second in the league, giving up 26.4 shots per game while the Avs concede a high 33.4 shots per game and are missing two key blueliners at the moment.

Colorado Avalanche
The Avs continue to tread water without some of the key components to their Stanley Cup run last season but had their four game win streak snapped to put a sour note at the end of a successful patch of games. Colorado lost 3-2 to the Blues on Monday night, breaking a four game winning streak that included a sweep of games in Finland against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Avs loss came at the hands of an unreal goaltending performance that ultimately denied them the win. Colorado put up 47 shots in defeat as Jordan Binnington turned back to his bubble playoff run self in a 45 save victory to allow his St. Louis Blues to steal one in the Mile High City.
Colorado relies heavily on their powerplay, ranking first in the NHL with a 37% success rate on the man advantage. Getting those opportunities with the extra man will be crucial for the Avs to score against Carolina’s defense that allows just 2.7 goals per game.
Alexandar Georgiev is expected to start for the Avs after getting two days rest. The Avs are a different beast with Georgiev in goal, holding a 7-2-1 record with their big offseason acquisition in between the pipes.
Carolina Hurricanes
A hot start will be crucial for the Hurricanes to avoid a repeat of their Saturday night loss to the Avs in this rematch of two non-conference foes. The Avs rushed out to a 2-0 first period lead over Carolina and never looked back in a game dominated by Colorado.
Containing former Norris and Conn Smythe trophy winning blueliner Cale Makar will be key to the Canes getting a win in the rematch. Makar was all over the ice in the 4-1 win and dictated the game, scoring two goals from the blueline. If the Canes want to get a win, they will need to bring the game to Makar and ensure they stay out of the penalty box to prevent situations where he can quarterback the powerplay.
Carolina took the frustrations of their loss to the Avs on the weekend out on the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. The Canes dominated all three periods against the Blackhawks in a 3-0 shutout victory, with Brent Burns setting up two goals and veteran center Jordan Staal getting on the scoreboard.
The Canes are likely to start Antti Raanta, who was in the starter’s crease this morning when Carolina took the ice for their morning skate. Raanta has been fine this season but will be under pressure to deliver a quality start in goal after backup Pyotr Kochetkov registered a shutout in the team’s win over Chicago.
