Bears Hope Coaching Change Leads to Improvement
The Chicago Bears made a coaching change after their most recent loss, which came on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions. Chicago mismanaged the clock in memorable fashion in that game, costing them a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the game’s final possession. That, along with the lack of recent success for the team as a whole, prompted them to axe head coach Matt Eberflus before this week’s action.
Thomas Brown has been named the interim coach for the Bears going into this week. He was previously named the interim offensive coordinator for the team, but has been elevated another level thanks to the dysfunction in this organization of late. We have seen the New Orleans Saints benefit from dumping a head coach previously this season and it will be interesting to see how the Bears handle things in a similar situation starting this week.
No matter who is coaching the team, the Bears need more consistent production from Caleb Williams and their passing game. Williams threw three touchdowns in the second half against the Lions and nearly led them down the field to tie the game late. But the Bears were shut out in the first half of that game, putting them in a terrible position that they can’t afford to find themselves in again this week.
49ers Return Home After Trip to Snowy Buffalo
In Week 13 of the NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers were tasked with playing on the road against the Buffalo Bills. And playing on the road against the Bills at this time of year can always mean playing while surrounded by snowy conditions. That was the case for the Niners, as they had to play against not just the Bills, but in the aftermath of some severe cold and snow in a tough situation for them to overcome.
This week, the Niners are out of the snow again and back at home, where they need to start stacking up wins in a hurry. The AFC West is still wide open late in the regular season, but the Niners are not on top of it the way they have been in recent seasons. If the Niners can’t turn things around in a hurry starting this week, they could miss the playoffs entirely, in addition to failing to win their division.
