Key Storylines
The Ravens’ critical question is the status of Lamar Jackson going into this game. He has been limited at practice this week with his hamstring injury and missed the last two games for Baltimore. He has posted a 130.5 passer rating with 10 touchdown passes and one interception in the games he has played in. The offense averaged 32.8 points per game.
Baltimore has managed just 13 points across the last two games with Jackson out of commission. The Ravens have lost four games in a row and they will try to end their losing streak at home before their playoff hopes get too far away from them.
The Bears have surged under their new regime. They have won four straight games to improve to 4–2 for the season. Their offense has scored 25 points or more in each game of their winning streak. Their defense has stepped up when needed as well. They will try to use that momentum to get the better of the Ravens, whether Jackson plays or not.
Quarterback Play
Chicago’s Caleb Williams has thrown for 1,351 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions this season. He’s done a solid job managing the offense and spreading the ball around. But his connection with wide receive Rome Odunze has been especially dangerous and Williams will try to continue that this week.
Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has not ignited the Ravens’ offense with Jackson sidelined. Jackson’s mobility and ability to cover for the shortcomings of his offensive line are huge advantages for the Ravens. Baltimore will hope to have those advantages back here.
Betting Trends
- The Bears are 4–2 against the spread this season.
- The Ravens are 1–5 against the spread going into Week 8.
- Five of Baltimore’s six games have gone over their totals.
- Chicago is 3-2-1 to the over through its first six games.
Bears vs Ravens Model Projection
Score Projection: Bears 21 – Ravens 24
Win Probability: Bears 40%, Ravens 60%
Final Thoughts
I’m siding with Chicago to cover the spread here. The Ravens’ offense has stalled without Lamar Jackson in action. If he’s not fully sharp this week, or he’s out again, the Bears’ could very well win this game outright. If Jackson does return at full strength, Baltimore could roll. But I’ll take the points with the Bears with the expectation that Jackson is limited to some extent here.
