The San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans will do battle in the NFL in Week 8 on Sunday afternoon. The Niners enter this week at 5-2 despite injury issues at the quarterback position. They will try to get another important win on the road against a Texans team desperate to get back into the AFC playoff hunt. Before kickoff from NRG Stadium, continue reading to get my 49ers vs Texans prediction.
Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|
Texans -2.5 | 49ers +110 / Texans -130 | 41.5 points |
The Texans had a two-game winning streak snapped against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. Despite their 2-4 record, Houston’s defense has been stingy, ranking among the NFL’s best in points allowed and advanced metrics. They forced four turnovers but couldn’t generate enough offense against the Seahawks. Houston played on Monday night against Seattle and will have to overcome a short rest period to win this game.
The 49ers are rounding into form with a 5-2 record. They are banged up all over the field at this point in the season. But San Francisco appears to be trending upward despite the injury issues. The 49ers won over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 with a great performance from star running back Christian McCaffrey and the return of tight end George Kittle. They will attempt to take advantage of any fatigue for the Texans.
C.J. Stroud is still developing. He enters this game with 1,305 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions on the season. He’ll test a 49ers pass defense that has allowed 216.6 passing yards per game.
The 49ers’ quarterback situation is up in the air. Starter Brock Purdy remains questionable with a toe injury and backup Mac Jones has stepped in and posted a 4-1 record in his starts. With McCaffrey in form and Kittle back, the 49ers’ offense may be effective no matter who their quarterback is.
Score Projection: San Francisco 49ers 24 – Houston Texans 17
Win Probability: 49ers 62% / Texans 38%
The 49ers could win this game even with their quarterback situation being murky again going into Week 8. The Niners are playing well on defense and they have found success on offense with both their backup quarterback and starting quarterback when needed. I'm going to take the points with San Francisco in this contest, as the toughness of the Niners will once again help them to get an important win.
