Last November, several big names in the gambling industry agreed to form a group with the purpose of ensuring integrity within the realm of sports betting. It has been almost 6 months, but the SWIMA has officially formed this week. Here’s what you can expect from them!
The Sports Wagering Integrity Monitoring Association (SWIMA) formed this week with 11 members named as founders. These included companies focused on sports betting; DraftKings, FanDuel, 888 Holdings, Bet365, and William Hill. They also included operators of casinos; Caesars Entertainment, Tropicana Atlantic City, Golden Nugget Inc, Resorts Atlantic City, Hard Rock International, and MGM Resorts.
The group now has the support of 26 different companies, all with the goal of protecting both bettors and operators from any fraudulent acts. SWIMA is partnered with both regulators of gambling and the police, allowing them to prevent the integrity of sports betting from being impaired.
This is very helpful for consumers, as this adds a level of protection to help prevent any tampering from occurring in events you bet on. On top of being unlawful, illegal sports betting has no protection against fraud and scams, which makes you an easy victim.
Having an association with the sole purpose of preventing fraud is great for the health of sports betting. As a matter of fact, an AGA study showed than at least 7 out of 10 Americans find the ability to place a safe and secure bet very important.
This means that SWIMA definitely benefits you as a bettor. It also works to benefit online sportsbooks and casino operators, as it helps to prevent anyone from committing fraud to steal from the sportsbook. They’ll communicate with multiple different states to ensure pertinent information is passed along to prevent theft.
For as long as sports game have been played, people have found ways to cheat them and cause an unfair outcome to occur. This becomes even more relevant when it comes to sports betting, as one team losing can result in a huge gain.
Because gambling on sports already has a tough image, the last thing it needs is to be associated with fraud. A commission like SWIMA is perfect for maintaining an upstanding image for sports betting, which will ensure further legalizations across the country.
