The PGA Tour plays the second of back-to-back Designated Events this week, as they head back west just outside Los Angeles, and the loaded Genesis Invitational, which features a field that might be the best of the year outside any major, with 23 of the Top-25 players in the world in the field. Oh, and as you may have heard, a guy named Tiger Woods is back this week and set to tee it up.
Riviera is an old-school course, and one that players who have a strong history at tend to play well. Here’s a look at this week’s golf betting picks for the Genesis Invitational.
Genesis Invitational Betting Pick
ℹ️ The Pick: | Justin Thomas (+1600) |
? Recommended Sportsbook Promo: | First Bet On Caesars up to $1,250 |
⛳ Promo Code: | ATSBONUSFULL |
Why Bet On Justin Thomas:
✅ Thomas has caught fire of late, surging last week in Phoenix with a final round 65 to finish solo fourth. He also has played well at this event in the past, posting three Top-10 finishes in his past five trips to Riviera.
✅ This isn’t a course that necessarily demands distance, but great play from 200 yards and in, and Thomas might be the best player in the world in that range, particularly around the greens, which is a huge ask this week.
✅ Oh and there’s the Tiger Woods factor. This is Woods’ tournament, Thomas is one of his best friends, they get to play together on Thursday and Friday, and the winner gets presented the trophy from Tiger, provided he doesn’t win it. It all lines up for it to be Thomas’ week.
Best Genesis Invitational Sportsbook Promo
New customers at Caesars Sportsbook can place their first wager on The Genesis Invitational. If that first bet does not win, bettors will be reimbursed the amount they lost, up to $1,250 in site credit. That site credit can then be used to try again at Caesars.
Caesars is also offering boosted odds on Tiger Woods to finish in the top-20 ahead of the tournament. While that would be a courageous bet to make given how much time Woods has had away from the course, the option is out there for those who want to back him.

Genesis Invitational Course Breakdown
Riviera is one of the best challenges on the PGA Tour, it’s not overly long at a bit over 7,300 yards, but requires accuracy with the irons, and strong putting. It has narrow fairways, thick rough, and fairly small greens, so players are going to miss both of those things plenty this week. A big key for the players is knowing where they can and can’t miss on each hole.
Accuracy off the tee is doubly important because of the speed of the fairways, which can give players a big boost in yards if they land it in the short grass and get the rollout.
Hole 10, which is a tempting 314 yards, is one to watch as it leaves players with a big risk-reward tee shot to what is a drivable distance, but has trouble all around if you miss.
The course will play as a Par 71 this week.
Other Golfers Who Can Win The Genesis Invitational
Viktor Hovland (+2500): Hovland has the game to play well at Riviera, he hits it long and usually in the fairway, while hitting the green in regulation in excess of 70 percent so far in 2023. He also has a pair of Top-5 finishes in his last two trips here. Add in fairly long odds and he’s worth a look.
Collin Morikawa (+1800): He’s been up near the top of the leaderboard a ton this season despite a missed cut last week. Again, this is a course that requires players to be strong with an iron in hand, and that’s Morikawa to a T.
Adam Scott (+4000): He’s won twice here, and should be ready to go after a little bit of a layoff from playing in recent weeks. It’s a course similar to Augusta, where Scott has also succeeded. Another guy with very long odds here despite the game and history that says he should be in contention come Sunday.
