One conference that regularly features teams with some of the best odds to win the College Football Playoff is the Big Ten. With Ohio State and Michigan regularly leading this conference into College Football Playoff action, this conference is always one to watch when evaluating the happenings in college football. Here, we look at the Big Ten championship betting odds for this season and look at which teams could come away with the Big Ten title.
Big Ten Football Championship Odds
Team | Big Ten Championship Odds |
Ohio State | -110 |
Oregon | +120 |
Indiana | +800 |
Penn State | +3500 |
The college football betting odds for the Big Ten this season feature Ohio State as a slight favorite to come away with the conference title. But there are some serious competitors to them at the top of the list. Chief among those competitors is a newcomer to the Big Ten, the Oregon Ducks. Oregon has been one of the best programs in college football for many years now and their move to the Big Ten immediately adds some depth to this league. Oregon is undefeated and ranked number one in the country this year and they have already beaten Ohio State at home this year.
Also in the mix to win the Big Ten according to oddsmakers are Penn State and Indiana. Penn State’s offense has been a big concern in games against the other elite teams in this conference, but they are off to a nice start offensively in 2024 outside of their one loss to Ohio State. And Indiana is a top-10 team in the country this season, using their offense to demolish their competition for the most part. But they too are expected to fall to Ohio State this season.
Of course, conference realignment has been one of the big stories for the Big Ten in the 2024 season. Along with Oregon and USC, the conference added UCLA and Washington to its ranks from the Pac-12. Washington is coming off of a national championship game appearance last year. And while they lost their head coach and quarterback from that team that finished second to Michigan in the College Football Playoff, their presence in this conference will provide plenty of intrigue moving forward.
Are There Divisions In the Big Ten?
The Big Ten will no longer have divisions in football starting with the 2024 season. Ironically, the addition of the former Pac-12 teams would have made the Big Ten West a decent football destination for the first time in the history of the conference. But instead we will just have one big conference full of teams that will face each other in some combination moving forward.
Big Ten Championship Betting & Handicapping
The biggest key to handicapping the Big Ten moving forward is understanding how the league’s newcomers stack up against the rest of the conference. There was a big gulf in class between Ohio State, Michigan, and the rest of the conference before the arrivals of USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon. But those teams could change the hierarchy of things in this conference and it is up to bettors to figure out to what degree that will happen.
Of course, Ohio State and Michigan will still likely have an edge over most of the teams that they play against in this conference throughout each season. And there will always be edges to be found each year, like Iowa’s streak of unders that made them one of the most profitable under teams in the history of the sport in 2023. But, once again, it is up to bettors to identify those edges before it is too late to cash in on them.
