The Arizona Wildcats and UCLA Bruins will play a non-conference game in college basketball on Friday night. Both of these former Pac-12 rivals are off to strong starts to the season. Arizona comes in at 3-0 under fifth-year head coach Tommy Lloyd, fresh off an impressive win over a defending national champion. UCLA is also 3-0 under Mick Cronin and has used strong defense to build momentum. Here, I take a closer look at tonight’s game and give you my Arizona vs UCLA prediction.
Our Arizona vs UCLA Pick

- Confidence: ★★★☆☆
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Arizona Wildcats @ UCLA Bruins

Key Storylines
- Arizona arrives undefeated at 3-0, riding a strong start that includes a high-profile victory over defending champion Florida by a 93-87 margin. In that game, freshman forward Koa Peat exploded for 30 points and senior guard Jaden Bradley logged 27. That duo will try to propel the Wildcats to another win over a ranked team here.
- UCLA is also 3-0. While their early schedule may not carry the same marquee win that Arizona’s does, the Bruins have shown defensive discipline and taken care of business early in the year. Tyler Bilodeau is averaging 16.3 points per game early on.
- This game is technically at a neutral site, but the Intuit Dome in Inglewood gives UCLA an advantage in their home city. Arizona will be tested in its first hostile environment game of the season.
- This game features two teams that used to be heated rivals in the Pac-12. While Bill Walton is no longer with us to wax poetic about the Conference of Champions, it is still always a treat to see this rivalry renewed in spite of conference realignment.
Betting Trends
- Arizona is 1-2 against the spread so far this season.
- UCLA has failed to cover the spread in any of its three games so far.
- The under has cashed in two of the first three games for both of these programs.
Arizona vs UCLA Model Projection
Score Projection: Arizona 80 – UCLA 74
Win Probability: Arizona 57%, UCLA 43%
Final Thoughts
I am legitimately excited to see these powerhouse programs do battle again. As for the outcome of this contest, I think that Arizona will get the job done in UCLA’s backyard. Arizona is averaging 90 points per game and managed to break 90 against the defending champion Gators. Peat has the makings of a bona fide star for the Wildcats and I expect him to lead the Wildcats to another impressive win during non-conference play.
