Top Stanley Cup Contenders
New York Rangers
The team with the best odds to win the Stanley Cup is the New York Rangers. While teams that have won the Presidents’ Cup have struggled in postseasons past, the Rangers have had no such issues in the first or second rounds. If they can keep playing at such a high level, we could see the Rangers win their first championship since the 1990s.
Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers trailed the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division for much of the first half of the NHL season. But the Panthers caught fire in the second half of the year and won the Atlantic by a single point over Boston. The Panthers have certainly proven that they have a shot to win the Stanley Cup this year, thanks in large part to one of the best defenses in the league, which ranked second to the Winnipeg Jets in goals allowed.
Edmonton Oilers
Despite a slow start to this season, the Edmonton Oilers are still alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as one of the favorites to lift the Cup. The question now is whether the Oilers can beat the Vancouver Canucks in the second round of the playoffs to prove that they are a serious contender for the title. That should be one of the most competitive series in the second round of the postseason.
Colorado Avalanche
One of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL this season is the Colorado Avalanche. They have done a great job of settling the majority of their games in regulation with wins, avoiding the chaos that can come with the small sample sizes of overtime and shootouts. The Avs won 31 home games during the regular season, the most of any team in the league. Now, they have to find a way to continue to win at home in their second round series with the Dallas Stars to maximize their chances of pulling an upset.
Other Top Stanley Cup Contenders
Along with the teams listed above, there are plenty of other teams with a shot to come out on top in NHL futures markets. The Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins are particularly interesting teams behind the aforementioned four teams. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes are currently the longshots to get through the second-round and make it all the way to the end of the playoffs to win the Cup.
