Storm vs Aces Game 1 Betting Pick
This game will be played at Michelob Ultra Arena at 4:00 PM ET on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
The Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm both enjoyed sweeps in their first round series in the WNBA playoffs. As a result, both teams have had a week off ahead of the first game of their best of five semifinal series. In our WNBA picks for Sunday, we look at Storm vs Aces Game 1 and determine which team will be best equipped to shake off the rust in Sin City.
Why Bet The Aces:
✅ The Aces went 3-1 against the Storm this season, including 2-0 on their home floor. All three of those wins for Las Vegas came by more than two possessions, including their 109-100 victory over Seattle in the final game of the regular season for both teams. Expect the Aces to continue to dominate the Storm to take a 1-0 lead in this series at home.
✅ Las Vegas will benefit from the absence of Gabby Williams in this contest, who is out with a concussion for the Storm. Without Williams, the Storm will have to rely more on backup guards like Briann January and Epiphanny Prince, who are simply not good enough at this point in their careers to keep up with the trio of Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young in the Aces backcourt.

✅ While Seattle earned a top-four seed in the WNBA playoffs, they have been positively mediocre on the road this season. The Storm are 9-9 in road games this year, and managed to avoid playing on the road against Washington in the first round. Expect Vegas, who is 15-5 at home between the regular season and playoffs, to pounce on the Storm as a result.
Seattle Storm
The Seattle Storm earned a first round sweep of the Washington Mystics to get to the semifinals in the WNBA playoffs. They were led by Breanna Stewart in that series, as she averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds over the two-game sweep to propel Seattle to this point. But things are set to get much tougher for the Storm against the top seeded Aces in Las Vegas.
Gabby Williams will miss the series opener for the Storm after suffering a concussion during the Mystics series. While Sue Bird went 6/12 from three-point range in the first round, asking her to carry more of the offensive workload at this stage in her career may not pan out well for Seattle. Given that 38 points from Jewell Loyd was not enough to help the Storm win in Las Vegas just before the playoffs started, one has to wonder if Seattle has the firepower to win on the road in this series.
Las Vegas Aces
The Las Vegas Aces had an easy path to the WNBA semifinals. They swept a Phoenix Mercury team that was without Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith, winning both games in that series by double figures. In this game, the Aces will aim to set the tone against a Storm team that has beaten them once this season, though the Aces have had a distinct upper hand against them as a whole on the year.
Las Vegas will be without Dearica Hamby for this game, as she continues to recover from injury. Without her, the Aces are a slightly worse rebounding team, but they are also able to commit Kiah Stokes to the paint to allow the rest of their team the ability to stretch the floor and create open looks with their ball movement. The Aces beat the Storm without Hamby at the end of the regular season, and should be able to do so again here.
