Running a bit later than usual today due to odds not being released on the games until roughly 11:45 a.m. EST. WNBA odds are released late from time-to-time, but today was worse than normal. Three games on the slate for today and we’ll take a look at one of the late games, as the Phoenix Mercury visit the Las Vegas Aces.
Phoenix at Las Vegas Betting Odds
The Aces are favored by 9.5 and the total on the game is 169.5. There is no moneyline as I’m writing this.
Phoenix Mercury
The Phoenix Mercury have been one of the big disappointments in the league so far, coming into this game with a 7-9 record. Yes, they lost Diana Turasi for a stretch, but this team still has Brittney Griner, Skylat Diggins-Smith and Kia Nurse. With Turasi back there’s no reason why the Mercury haven’t been winning.
Phoenix lost their last two games at home to the Minnesota Lynx and were completely thumped 99-68 last game. The Mercury only scored 76 points the previous game against the Lynx, so the offense isn’t clicking. The Mercury did lose 85-79 to the Aces in Phoenix earlier this year in the first game Turasi missed.
.
Los Vegas Aces
The Aces are tied with the Storm for having the best record in the league and Las Vegas is especially tough at home, where they average 97.4 points and allow 79.4. The Aces are solid all the way around and have no real weakness.
Las Vegas plays at the fastest pace in the WNBA, which makes sense since you want to take advantage of the talent differential you have and see as many possessions as possible in a game. The Aces are No. 1 in offensive efficiency but can play defense pretty well when they want to.
Phoenix at Las Vegas Pick
As bad as the Mercury have been at home this season, they’ve been much better on the road, where they score 82.7 points and allow 78.6. I have this one 88-84 for the Aces, so am going to take a shot on the over. The Mercury are a better offensive team on the road for some reason, while the Aces also put up more points at home.
