Liberty vs Sky Game 2 Betting Pick
This game will be played at Wintrust Arena at 12:00 PM ET on Saturday, August 20, 2022.
The first game of the WNBA playoffs saw its biggest surprise so far, as the New York Liberty upset the Chicago Sky in Chicago. As a result, the Sky are facing elimination at home in Game 2, while the Liberty look to complete a sweep into the semifinals. In our WNBA picks for this weekend, we look at Liberty vs Sky Game 2, as the Sky aim to keep their season alive.
Why Bet The Liberty:
✅ The ball distribution from the Liberty was incredible in Game 1, as Marine Johannes and Sabrina Ionescu both had six or more assists. The ability of the Liberty to move the ball into dangerous spots on the floor through multiple players makes them hard to stop, even if you are the defending champions. Expect the Liberty’s ability to pass the ball to help them keep this game close.
✅ No team in the WNBA shot more threes than the Liberty this season. In Game 1, they shot 25 three-point shots, making 11 of them. While the Liberty may not shoot 44% from long distance again in Game 2, they will continue to do enough damage from distance to remain competitive whether they win or lose in Chicago on Saturday.

✅ The return of Betnijah Laney has been significant for the Liberty late in the season, and she was huge down the stretch against the Sky. Laney made some big shots from the mid-range down the stretch, adding an important dimension to a Liberty offense that had previously relied on threes and interior play almost exclusively. Laney will once again play a key role for the Liberty as they will keep this contest within single digits.
New York Liberty
The New York Liberty were not expected to put up much of a fight against the Chicago Sky in Game 1 of their first round playoff series. But the Liberty hung around all game long, and went on a late 13-0 run to steal the first game of the series. As a result, the Liberty simply need to split the next two games against Chicago in order to move onto the second round of the playoffs in a stunning upset.
On Wednesday, the Liberty clicked so well on the offensive end. They made 11 threes, forcing the Sky defense to respect them on the perimeter, which let their bigs operate with less traffic on the interior. The three-point shot is going to be integral to the success of the Liberty again in this contest, as it will be necessary to keep the Sky defense honest once more.
Chicago Sky
Despite being a heavy favorite in Game 1 of the WNBA playoffs, the Chicago Sky are all of a sudden facing two elimination games. The Sky struggled to get stops against the Liberty on Wednesday, and will need to be better defensively to save their season on Saturday afternoon. If they fail to do that, the Sky’s championship defense could end in just two playoff games.
In Game 2, the Sky need more from Emma Meesseman on the offensive end of the floor. Meesseman went just 2/7 from the floor in Wednesday’s series opener, scoring just four points. She has to be more assertive and efficient if the Sky are going to keep their title hopes alive.
