- This is the first back-to-back of the season for New York, and their third game in four nights. That could help the under as tired legs could lead to worse three-point shooting than usual from this prolific offensive team.
- Minnesota is without their top scorer in Napheesa Collier, who suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter against the Mystics on Wednesday night. She ranks fourth in the W in scoring this season, and missing her is terrible for the Lynx offense.
The New York Liberty will play for the second straight night on Friday night, when they host the Minnesota Lynx at Barclays Center. New York beat the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, but will need to get up for this contest on a quick turnaround. Meanwhile, the Lynx will be without their top weapon, and will need to find a way to perform without her in their lineup. In our WNBA betting picks for Friday night, we look at this alliterative Lynx vs Liberty matchup.
Lynx vs Liberty Betting Pick
Lynx vs Liberty Under 169
Why Bet on the Under:
✅ New York playing for the second straight night should have an adverse impact on their scoring output, and we could see them limit the minutes of some of their stars on top of that.
✅ Napheesa Collier is out for the Lynx in this game, and their offense will have trouble against the Liberty without the league’s fourth-best individual scorer this year.
✅ The Lynx play at the fourth-slowest pace in the 12-team WNBA this season, and will look to slow things down to stay in this game, especially with Collier out of action.
This game will be played at Barclays Center at 8:00 PM ET on Friday, July 28, 2023.
Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx come into Friday night at 11-13 on the season, which is good for seventh place in the WNBA standings. Minnesota has won two of its last three games, with their most recent triumph coming by five points at home against the Washington Mystics. Here, the Lynx will look for a second straight win, but will need to overcome the absence of their leader to get it.
Without Napheesa Collier, the Lynx will not have the interior advantage that they may have had otherwise against the Liberty. Instead, they will need the outside shooting of Kayla McBride and Diamond Miller to propel them in this game that is being made up after air quality issues in New York saw it postponed earlier in the season.
New York Liberty
The New York Liberty come into Friday with an 18-5 record, having beaten the Atlanta Dream the night before. For the third time in four games against Atlanta this season, New York scored at least 95 points. But scoring may not be quite as easy in this contest given the demands of the Liberty schedule this past week.
With this being New York’s fourth game since Sunday, an unusually strenuous workload in the WNBA, it will be interesting to see how coach Sandy Brondello manages the minutes of her players. We could see less of Breanna Stewart and other stars than we usually do. But no matter who is on the floor for New York, not letting up against a banged up Lynx team will be key.
