Three games on tap in the WNBA today and we’ll take a look at the game between the Los Angeles Sparks (10-14) and the Connecticut Sun (18-6).
Los Angeles at Connecticut Betting Odds
The Sun opened as 12.5-point favorites and the line has dropped slightly to Sun -12, while the total has dropped from 151 to 148.5.
Los Angeles Sparks
The Sparks came out strong after play resumed, running off four straight victories to get themselves back into the playoff hunt, but were drilled last game by the Washington Mystics in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the 78-68 final suggests. The Sparks outscored Washington 24-7 in the fourth quarter to make it the game a bit more respectable.
The Sparks haven’t scored much all season and are averaging just 73.8 points per game on 40.3% shooting from the field. L.A. shoots just 32.6% on 3-pointers. The thing that’s helped the Sparks is that they can play a bit of defense themselves, allowing 78.8 points on 42.2% shooting.
Connecticut Sun
The Sun are coming off a big victory over Las Vegas, in which they shut down the Aces pretty well and held Vegas to just 62 points in a 76-62 win. The Sun used an 18-8 fourth quarter to seal the win. The Sun are averaging 79.1 points per game and allow 71.5 on 41% shooting.
Connecticut does have some players who can score, such as Jonquel Jones, who is leading the team with 19.9 points a game, and DeWanna Bonner (16.5 ppg), but the team has bought into Curt Miller’s defensive system and as a result have the best record in the WNBA.

Los Angeles at Connecticut Pick
We moved to 32-18-1 on the season last night, as the Mercury closed out the game with a 17-0 run. I have this game 78-66 for the Sun and will just follow the numbers once again and play the under 148.5. The number is low, but these are two of the top three defensive teams in the league and the Sparks have struggled to score at times. If the Sun don’t have a letdown after the Las Vegas win and bring their normal defensive intensity, they could hold LA to 62 points or less.
