It is much later than expected, but the 2020 Champions League final is finally upon us and fans are in for a treat. This year’s version will see Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich battle it out in Liston, Portugal on Sunday, August 23, 2020. Bayern Munich has won the Champions League five times in their storied history, while PSG are making their first appearance in the Champions League final. This game will air live on CBS Sports Network, Univision, TUDN, and CBS All Access at 3:00 p.m. EST.
Paris Saint-Germain has had a relatively comfortable road to the final, but they have looked good throughout the whole competition. PSG won Group A with a 17-2 goal differential and five more points than second-place Real Madrid. The Parisian’s lone blemish during the group stage was a 2-2 draw at Real Madrid. PSG then beat Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16, Atalanta in the quarterfinals, and RB Leipzig in the semifinals.
Bayern Munich has been cruising all season and it has been no different in the Champions League. Bayern went unbeaten in Group B and finished with eight more points than second-place Tottenham. The Bavarians have been the most dominant club in the world during the knockout stages of this tournament as they beat Chelsea on a 7-1 aggregate, beat Barcelona 8-2 in a single legged quarterfinal, and beat Lyon 3-0 in the semifinals.
Below is my pick for the Champions League action between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.
Match Odds: PSG (+230) vs Bayern Munich (+104) Draw (+290)
Paris Saint-Germain impressed in the semifinals as they cruised to a 3-0 win over the Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig. PSG opened the scoring with a Marquinhos header in the 13th minute and made it 2-0 with an Angel De Maria goal in the 42nd minute. The Parisian giants finished the game off with a 57th minute goal from Juan Bernat. After having to pull off a miracle comeback in the quarterfinals, this performance was much more preferred by PSG fans.
Bayern yet again cruised and finished off Lyon 3-0 in the semifinals. Serge Gnabry started the scoring with a beautiful run and shot in the 18th minute. It was Gnabry again in the 33rd minute as he cleaned up rebound in the box. Robert Lewandowski finished off the scoring with a goal in the 88th minute and Bayern fans are now one game from their sixth Champions League title.
Series History: These two clubs have met nine times in the past, eight competitive matches, and PSG holds a slight 5-0-4 advantage. PSG holds a 5-0-3 advantage in Champions League games.
Game Prediction: I cannot go against Bayern Munich at this point, so I am backing the German giants to lift their sixth Champions League trophy.
