West Ham vs Bournemouth

One of the biggest games on New Year’s Day takes place at the bottom of the table as 17th place West Ham welcomes 16th place Bournemouth to East London. Thursday will be David Moyes first match back as manager of West Ham after being hired on Sunday.

West Ham are fourth from the bottom heading into their 20th game as they are sitting on 19 points. The only teams lower on the table, and currently in the relegation zone, are Aston Villa (18 points), Watford (16 points) and Norwich (13 points).

The team right above West Ham is Bournemouth who currently sit on 20 points in 20 matches. The Cherries are in big danger of going down this season as they are extremely injured and could lose their best defender, Nathan Ake, in the transfer window.

A win for West Ham would move them ahead of the Cherries, and could potentially jump them above Southampton. Bournemouth could also jump Southampton with a win on Wednesday.

Below is my pick for the Premier League action between West Ham and Bournemouth. All odds are from Caesars Sportsbook.

West Ham (-110) vs Bournemouth (290) Draw +270)

West Ham is coming off their seventh loss in 10 games after falling 2-1 to Leicester City on Saturday. The Hammers made a coaching change after the loss Saturday bring back previous manager David Moyes. Scoring has been an issue for West Ham as they have scored more than one goal just twice in the last ten games and have been shut out twice during that span. Defense has also been an issue during this stretch as the Irons have given up two or more goals in seven of those 10 games. West Ham is the worst team in the Premier League at home this season having won just seven points from nine home fixtures.

Coming into this one in similar form is Bournemouth who have also lost seven of their last 10 overall games. The Cherries have scored the third least amount of goals in the Premier League, with just 20, and have not scored more than one goal in their last six games. Bournemouth has been shut out four times in their last ten games and have scored more than one goal just one time during those 10 games. The Cherries have been one of the bottom teams on the road this season having won just 10 points in 10 road fixtures.

Series History: West Ham leads the overall series 5-5-4 after these two teams played to a 2-2 draw in late September.

Game Prediction: Both these teams are in shambles right now, but I like West Ham to get the new manager bounce and come away with a big win in this one.

YTD Results: 122-119
