Week 6 of the MLS season is upon us and there are some really fun matchups on deck Saturday. The match of the weekend will take place in the nation’s capital when DC United host LAFC at Audi Field. There are a few more East vs West matchups taking place on Saturday when the Philadelphia Union welcome FC Dallas, to Chester, and the New York Red Bulls will welcome Minnesota.
The MLS season has been off to a great start and week 6 looks like it could be the best yet. Below are my three best bets for Saturday’s MLS action.
Toronto FC (-182) vs Chicago Fire (+500)
Toronto FC is a perfect three wins in three games to start the season and it is exactly what the TFC faithful needed to see after the campaign from last season. Toronto has scored three goals in each game this season and have outscored opponents at home 7-2. The Fire are coming off a nice 1-0 home win, against the New York Red Bulls, and will look for their first road result this season. The Fire are currently 1-2-1 on the season and will look to get a huge road victory on Saturday. Toronto FC continues their good form to start the season and win 3-1.
San Jose Earthquakes (+225) vs Portland Timbers (+104)
There are a lot of good matchups this weekend, but this one is definitely not one of them. Portland, who have one point this season, travels to San Jose to take on the only team without a point through four games. The Quakes have scored just two goals this season and have given up a whopping 14 goals through four games. They have lost by a combined 10-1 at home this season and have lost their only road match 4-1. It has been a rough start for the Quakes and just as rough as one for last season’s MLS Cup final participant Portland Timbers. The Timbers are continuing their long road trip to start the season, as their stadium is undergoing renovations, and will look to get their first win all year. The Timbers opened the season with a 3-3 draw, but have since been outscored 9-2 in their last three games. Portland is not off to a great start this season, but San Jose is one of the worst teams I have ever seen right now, so back the Timbers to get their first win of the season winning 3-1.
Philadelphia Union (-133) vs FC Dallas (+333)
The Philadelphia Union had a rough start to the season, but will now be looking for their first three game winning streak since August 2018. The Union’s defense has been the story the last few weeks as they have given up just nine shots per game and have strung together consecutive clean sheets. The improved defense, to go along with a potent attack make Philadelphia a very dangerous team. FC Dallas also enter this game on a two game win streak, but have struggled on the road in recent years. FCD has especially struggled when traveling to face Eastern Conference opponents and will look to change their fortunes on Saturday. The Union continue their great form and win 2-1.
