The MLS is now into the beginning of their busy season as there are four midweek games taking place on Wednesday. Every team in the league has played at least nine games this season, and a few teams have played as many as 13, but the MLS is a long grind and there is still a long way to go. Heading into Wednesday’s games LAFC lead the Western Conference, and the entire league, with 27 points, while the Philadelphia Union lead the Eastern Conference, and have the second best record in the league, with 23 points. The Union are tied with DC United on 23 points, both with 12 games played, but the Union have a goal differential of +11 while DC United have a +6 differential.
Wednesday features a pretty solid midweek schedule as Toronto FC host DC United, Houston hosts Portland, Vancouver welcomes Atlanta United and Orlando City travel to Seattle to face the Sounders.
Here are my picks for each game on the MLS schedule on Wednesday.
Toronto FC (-152) vs DC United (+375): Draw (+300)
Toronto enter Wednesday in 6th place in the East with 16 points through 10 games played. TFC enter on a two game losing streak and have lost three of their last four overall. Toronto has played six home games this season and have gone 3-1-2.
DC United enter Wednesday in 2nd place in the Easy with 23 points through 12 games played. DC have won two straight games and three of their last four overall. United have played five road games this season and they have gone 3-1-1 in those contests.
I like a draw in this one.
Houston Dynamo (-154) vs Portland Timbers (+350): Draw (+320)
Houston enter Wednesday in 4th place in the West with 19 points through just nine games played. The Dynamo lost their last game, at Seattle, but have won three of their last five games overall. At home, Houston have yet to lose going 5-1-0 in six home games.
Portland sit in 10th place in the West with just 10 points in 10 games this season as the Timber try to navigate this tough road schedule to start. The Timber have to play all home games until June, as their stadium is under construction, and Portland really need to get home. Portland were on a three game winning streak before a disappointing 1-0 loss at Vancouver last Friday. Portland has gone 3-1-6 in their 10 road games in 2019.
I like Houston to get the win.
Vancouver Whitecaps (+200) vs Atlanta United (+120): Draw (+260)
Vancouver enter play Wednesday having won 12 points from their 11 games played so far in 2019. The Whitecaps are on a three game unbeaten run and have lost just once in their last six games. At home this season Vancouver are 2-2-2 in their six games played.
Atlanta United have finally figured things out as they have used a four game winning streak to propel them to 5th place in the East with 17 points in 10 games. On the road this season Atlanta have played four games and sit at 2-0-2.
I like Atlanta United to get the road win.
Seattle Sounders (-227) vs Orlando City (+750): Draw (+300)
Seattle enter Wednesday as the third best team in the West with 22 points in 11 games played. Seattle have just one win in their last five games played, but are on a four match unbeaten run. The Sounders have yet to lose at home this season having played seven games and gone 5-2-0.
Orlando City enter play Wednesday in 10th place with 12 points in 11 games. Orlando enter play on a two game losing streak, three game winless streak and have won just one time in their last five games. On the road Orlando are 1-2-2 in their five games played.
Seattle cruise to a win.
