Manchester United vs Manchester City

The Carabao Cup is into the semifinal stages and one of the two matchups is a Manchester Derby as Manchester United host Manchester City in the first leg of the semifinal. This will be the 8th meeting in the League Cup and each team has won three games with one game ending in a draw.

Manchester United have won the League Cup five times in the past, most recently during the 2016-2017 season, and have been runners-up four times. Their five wins is good for third all-time and their nine finals appearances is good for second all-time.

Manchester City have won the League Cup six times in the past, including the last two seasons, and have been the runners-up one time. Their six wins are second all-time, trailing Liverpool’s eight, and their seven finals appearances is good for seventh all-time.

Below is my pick for the Carabao Cup semifinal action between Manchester United and Manchester City. All odds are from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Manchester United (+380) vs Manchester City (-180) Draw (+310)

Manchester United are very injured right now, especially in the midfield, and it showed as the Red Devils played to a lackluster 0-0 draw over the weekend. Both teams had their chances to win the game, but now Wolves and United will have to replay their FA Cup clash. United had been in good form up until the last week as they have six wins, two draws and two losses over their last 10 games across all competitions. In the Premier League this season Manchester United has five wins, four draws and one loss in their 10 games, good for 19 points which is fifth in the Premier League.

Manchester City were dealt a much easier FA Cup opponent this past weekend as City hosted League Two side Port Vale and came away with a 4-1 win. City were able to play mostly youngsters, and get much needed playing time for Sergio Aguero, as they prepare for the first leg of the League Cup. Manchester City have eight wins and two draws in their 10 games across all competitions and have now won three straight games by a combined 8-2 score. In the Premier League this season Manchester City has six wins, one draw and three losses on the road, good for 19 points which is fourth in the league.

Series History: Manchester United won 2-1, on the road, a few weeks back and now leads the all-time series 74-52-53.

Game Prediction: I think this game finishes 1-1, so I am backing a draw at +310.

2020 Results: 3-1
