Perhaps the derby of the season in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday will be played between Lyon and PSG at Parc Olympique Lyonnais. PSG are +125 favorites on William Hill Sportsbook to get a win and stay ahead of Lyon and Monaco.
Lyon is leveled with PSG in the standings as both teams are sharing the 2nd position with 60 points. Unlike PSG, Lyon is not playing in European competitions, so they will go all-in to win a domestic title, and three points here would be a major boost in that intent. Let’s check out the best Lyon vs. PSG betting pick.
Lyon vs. PSG
Three-way: 1: Lyon +179; X: +285 Draw; 2: PSG +125
Spread 0: Lyon +125; PSG -127
Total 2.5 Goals: Over -189; Under +154
Both Teams to Score: Yes -200; No +179
LYON
Separated by goal difference alone, a huge blockbuster of a Sunday-night game awaits as third-placed Lyon welcomes a PSG side perched one place above them. Looking to claim their first title since 2007/08, Lyon is in good form at the right time with just one loss in their previous nine Ligue 1 matches (W6, D2). They have been particularly efficient just before the break, scoring nearly half (49.12%) of their league goals this campaign from the 16th minute to HT.
Having conceded just 0.86 goals on average per L1 home game to date, the hosts boast the third-best home defense in the division (in terms of average goals). In a stat that implies Lyon should concede here though, they have shipped at least one goal in their previous six L1 home games against PSG, their joint-worst such run against any current top-flight side.
Betting Trends:
- Lucas Paquetá has been involved in Lyon’s opening goal in three of his last four L1 starts (two goals, one assist)
- Lyon have been shown one red card in the last three competitive H2Hs
PSG
Looking for a fourth straight Ligue 1 title, PSG have been indifferent this season by their standards. After a shock home loss last week, PSG have now lost seven of their 29 top-flight games so far this season (W19, D3), with no side claiming the L1 title with as many defeats at this stage since Lyon in 2002/03. Furthermore, the fact that they are winless in all four of their league games against the top-four teams ahead of this weekend (D1, L3) is extremely concerning.
On a more positive note, the visitors have won to nil on their previous three L1 road trips, while scoring first within 20 minutes on each occasion. Les Parisiens usually start well when playing away, as they’ve failed to score before HT in a league-low 28.57% of their L1 away days, subsequently, PSG is the only L1 side yet to trail at HT away (HT: W7, D7, L0).
Mauricio Pochettino cannot count on Juan Bernat, Neymar, and Pablo Sarabia, while Mauro Icardi is questionable to play.
Betting Trends:
- Julian Draxler netted the game’s opener in three of the four goalscoring top-flight games
- PSG didn’t play a draw in the last 11 league matches
Match Prediction
PSG won seven of the previous ten H2H encounters (L3), including four of the last five, but Lyon was better in the most recent clash and the champions are looking for revenge here. The Saints did win each of the past two duels at Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Interestingly. These rivals didn’t play a draw since 2015 (17 matches), and something is telling me that this one will end without a winner. Both teams could be happy with a share of points, so I am going with a draw.
The Pick: Draw (+285)
