Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid – Champions League Odds, Preview & Prediction 03/11/20

The Champions League is back with Round of 16 second leg affairs and there are none bigger than one of the two match-ups on Wednesday, March 11. The biggest game of the week is the Premier League’s Liverpool hosting La Liga’s Atletico Madrid. Atleti lead 1-0 after the first leg in Madrid.

Liverpool enter this week with a commanding 25 point lead over second place Manchester City in the Premier League. The title race is done and dusted, so it will be a big disappointment if the defending Champions League title holders go out in the Round of 16.

Atletico Madrid enter this week in fifth place in La Liga and currently occupying the first Europa League spot. Atleti are still very much in a tight race as they are just two points back of third place Sevilla and just three points up on seventh place Valencia. It is going to be an exciting final 11 games.

Below is my pick for the Champions League action between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. All odds are from William Hill Sportsbook.

Liverpool (-185) vs Atletico Madrid (+600) Draw (+280)

Liverpool got back to their winning ways with a dull 2-1 win over relegation candidate Bournemouth. The Reds actually went down 1-0 in the 9th minute, but two bad giveaways by Bournemouth allowed Liverpool to take the lead in the 33rd minute. Liverpool ended their brief two game losing streak and will now look to go another run to end the season. Liverpool have yet to drop points at home this season, in league play, earning 15 wins in 15 games played at Anfield.

It was a very exciting first half, and a very dull second half, between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla on Saturday. Sevilla opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but two goals in four minutes gave Atleti the lead in the 36th minute. The road club tied it up with a penalty in the 43rd minute and that gave us our final score of 2-2. It was a tough two points to drop for Atletico Madrid as they are trying to chase down Sevilla for a Champions League spot. Atleti is now unbeaten in their last six games, but have only managed a draw in their last two games. Atletico Madrid are the sixth best home club in Spain having won 16 points in 13 games played away from home.

Series History: With Atletico Madrid’s win in the first leg they now lead the all-time series 3-3-1.

Game Prediction: I expect Liverpool -185 to get the win and advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

2020 Results: 30-22
