The Premier League weekend gets started with a bang as Leicester City host Chelsea on Saturday February 1, 2020. Both teams are looking to play Champions League competition next season.
Leicester City have had a recent dip in form, but still sit in third place in the Premier League with 48 points. The Foxes have all but secured a Champions League spot for next season as Leicester have a 14 point cushion on fifth place Manchester United. Leicester also have an eight point lead over fourth place Chelsea, so they could really solidify their spot in the top four with a win in this one. The Foxes have only been to the Champions League once before, but should be getting ready for their second appearance next season.
Chelsea have really struggled as of late, but still hold a six point lead over Manchester United in the Champions League race for next season. Any other season Chelsea would probably have fallen out of the top four, but with the lack of good teams in the Premier League is allowing Frank Lampard and his young squad to work through their problems. The Blues have made the Champions League 16 times in the past and have lifted the trophy for the first time back in 2012.
Below is my pick for the Premier League action between Leicester City and Chelsea. All odds are from PointsBet Sportsbook.
Leicester City (+155) vs Chelsea (+160) Draw (+260)
Leicester City have righted the ship a bit and won two straight games after dropping their previous two. Last week, Leicester snapped their two game Premier League losing streak by smashing West Ham 4-1 and then followed that up with a 1-0 win at Brentford in their Round of 32 FA Cup clash. Leicester have a midweek Carabao Cup semifinal game at Aston Villa prior to this Chelsea game. The Foxes are the third best home team in the Premier League having won 26 points from a possible 36, but have lost two of their last three at King Power Stadium.
Chelsea also had two games last week and were able to go unbeaten in both, but will be disappointed they did not come away with two wins. Midweek they blew two one goal leads, against 10-man Arsenal, to come away with a disappointing 2-2 draw. This past weekend the Blues traveled to Hull, for a FA Cup Round of 32 match, and came away with a pretty comfortable 2-1 win. The Blues are a top four road team this season having won 22 points from a possible 36 points.
Series History: Chelsea lead the all-time series 56-33-26, but have not beaten the foxes in the Premier League since early September 2017.
Game Prediction: I don’t see much separating these two teams right now, so I am going to back a draw at +260 in this one.
