The Bundesliga continues to roll on and set the precedent for major sports leagues around the world to come back from the coronavirus pandemic. The fourth weekend of action gets underway Friday June 5, 2020 when SC Freiburg hosts Borussia Monchengladbach. This game will air live on FS2 at 2:30 p.m. EST.
SC Freiburg enter matchday 30 in eighth place and still fighting for the final Europa League spot. The club currently sits on 38 points and is four points back of sixth place Wolfsburg and seventh place Hoffenheim. Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim both have favorable matchups this week, though they are on the road, so Freiburg needs to at least get a point in this one.
Borussia Monchengladbach enter the weekend in fourth place and clinging onto the final Champions League spot. Monchengladbach can realistically finish anywhere between second place and fifth place as they are just four points back of Borussia Dortmund and are tied on points with Bayer Leverkusen in fifth place.
Below is my pick for the Bundesliga action between Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach. All odds are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
Freiburg (+320) vs Borussia Monchengladbach (-125) Draw (+290)
Freiburg held tight for much of their home game against Bayer Leverkusen, but you can only contain Kai Havertz for so long these days. Havertz scored a goal, while being dragged to the ground, in the 54th minute to lead Leverkusen to a 1-0 road win, Freiburg is still winless since the Bundesliga restarted, four games, have drawn two games and lost two games. SC Freiburg are 10th in the Bundesliga at home thanks to a 6-2-6 record and 20 points.
Borussia Monchengladbach had a favorable home game against Union Berlin and took care of business easily. Monchengladbach got out to a 2-0 first half lead and ultimately came away with an easy 4-1 victory. Marcus Thurman led the way for Monchengladbach with two goals and the Frenchman is now tied for the team lead with 10 goals. Borussia Monchengladbach are now unbeaten in three of their four games since the restart, having won their first and last games. Monchengladbach are the fifth best road club in Germany thanks to a 7-3-4 record and 24 points.
Series History: Since 2006, these clubs have met 22 times and Freiburg holds a slight 9-5-8 advantage. Monchengladbach won the reverse fixture 4-2 earlier this season.
Game Prediction: I am backing Borussia Monchengladbach to get all three points on the road.
