Midweek soccer can always be hit or miss, especially at this time of the season, but with so many good races throughout most of the leagues all games are becoming very entertaining. We have plenty of Champions League, and Europa League, hopefuls in action plus some relegation races getting tighter by the day. There is plenty to keep an eye out on over the next few weeks and I am sure the soccer will not let us down.
We have Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Napoli, Roma, Inter, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern and Ajax all in action Wednesday, so there should be some high level of play taking place.
Here are my three best bets for Wednesday.
Montpellier (-125) vs Guingamp (+400)
Montpellier is coming off a tough road loss to Lyon, 3-2, on Saturday and currently sit six points out of a Europa League spot. At home, in their last 10 games, Montpellier has won three, lost three and drawn four, so they are not in particularly great form at Stade de la Mosson. On Wednesday Montpellier welcome second from bottom Guingamp who are coming off a 1-0 loss to Strasbourg in the Coupe de Ligue final. Guingamp have lost four of five road games and desperately need points as they are eight points away from safety. Guingamp need the win, but Montpellier gets the win.
Huesca (+150) vs Celta Vigo (+170)
Bottom of the table, Huesca, looked like they are going to steal a much needed point at Real Madrid over the weekend, but gave up an 89th minute goal and fell 3-2. Huesca are currently seven points away from safety and, unfortunately for them, are currently on a three game losing streak after having to face 3rd place Real Madrid, 4th place Getafe and 5th place Alaves. Huesca have won two and lost three in their last five home games and will look to even out that win loss record when they welcome third from the bottom Celta Vigo. Celta Vigo got a big one over fellow relegation potential team, Villarreal, on Saturday. They currently sit in the final relegation spot, but are only one point away from safety. Celta Vigo have won just once in their last ten road games and have lost eight of those ten. I was actually impressed with the way Huesca played against the top teams and I think Huesca gets the job done on Wednesday.
AS Roma (+100) vs Fiorentina (+275)
Roma is coming off a 4-1 home loss to Napoli and are currently sitting outside all of the European competition spots. Sitting in 7th, they are just one points out of a Europa League spot, four points out of a Champions League spot, but just two points ahead of falling to ninth place. Sunday’s loss, to Napoli, was just Roma’s first home loss in their last ten games, so they are still tough to get at Stadio Olimpico. Fiorentina, who are currently sitting in 10th, are coming off a 1-1 draw against 9th place Torino. With the draw, Fiorentina sit ten points back of a Europa League spot and are destined for a middle of the table finish. The Viola are an extremely tough team to beat on the road, as they have lost just two of their last ten road matches, with those two being their most recent two. Even though Fiorentina is tough on the road Roma has more to play for and get the win.
