Euro 2020 qualifiers got underway, on Thursday, and it was an exciting day of soccer. We saw an upset right off the bat when Kazakhstan, who started the game as +300, defeated Scotland 3-0. Poland got a big 1-0 win, in Austria, thanks to a Krzysztof Piatek header in the 69th minute. Other notable results, from Day One, were Belgium comfortably beating Russia 3-1, Netherlands handling Belarus 4-0 and Croatia, not looking great, in a 2-1 win over Azerbaijan.
We have seven games on deck Friday and they will feature the World Cup champs, France, the Euro 2016 champs, Portugal, and World Cup semifinalists, England. France will travel to Moldova, Portugal hosts Ukraine and England hosts the Czech Republic.
Below are my best bets for Friday’s Euro 2020 qualifying action featuring one favorite, one big plus money bet and one goal total.
Luxembourg (+129) vs Lithuania
In Luxembourg’s last ten games, at home, they have compiled six wins, two draws and two losses. During this run they have held five clean sheets and have held opponents to one goal or less in eight of those ten games. Lithuania, on the other hand, have lost seven out of 10 road games and have not scored in six of those. I expect current form to hold, so take Luxembourg to win and it might be worth it to throw some money on the under as well.
Draw +650: Andorra vs Iceland
Two of the smallest European nations square off when Iceland, who have 350,000 residents, travel to 85,000 resident Andorra. Iceland has dominated this matchup in the past, but neither team is in winning form as of late. Andorra has seen a draw in six out of their last ten matches overall with five consecutive home draws. Iceland has finished with a draw in four of 10 matches overall and in three straight road games. Iceland could very easily win this game, but I think Andorra tries to get away with a point, so take a draw with the big plus money.
Over 2.5 goals (-102): England vs Czech Republic
Besides for France, England is probably the most impressive nation in the world right now. They backed up their unexpected World Cup semifinal run by winning their group in the UEFA Nations League. England’s last three games have all gone over 2.5 goals while two out of the last five Czech Republic games have gone over the total. At home, three out of England’s last five games, have gone over 2.5 while the Czech have seen their last five away games go over 2.5 goals three times. Take over 2.5 goals with England potentially getting three themselves.
European Qualifiers Record: 3-0
