The season may be winding down, but there is still a lot to play for in almost every single European league. Ligue One still has to determine who the final Champions League spot, and who the Europa League spot, will go to. In Spain they are still figuring out all of the European competition teams and still have a relegation battle going on. Finally, in the English Championship, there are playoff battles taking place and potential relegation teams looking to climb to safety.
Here are my three best bets for Friday’s action around Europe.
Lyon (-333) vs Angers (+900) – Draw (+450)
All of the sudden Lyon is handing on to the last Champions League spot for dear life. Coming off three straight losses, back-to-back in Ligue One, Lyon are just three points clear of 4th place St. Etienne. Lyon had not lost back-to-back games all season, so this is terrible timing for the underachieving French side. Their opponent on Friday is 12th place Angers who are unbeaten in six – five draws and one win. Angers were in a relegation battel until their last ten games where they have gone 4-1-5 and have gotten some crucial points. Angers haven’t beaten Lyon, on the road, since 2015 and that streak continues Friday. Back Lyon in this one.
Alaves (+110) vs Valladolid (+275) – Draw (+220)
Two teams who could not have picked worse timing to get into poor form will meet each other when 8th place Alaves takes on 18th place Valladolid. Alaves were in fourth place, and Champions League contention, before losing three out of their last four and dropping out of both European League spots. However, Alaves are still just six points out of a Champions League spot and just one out of the Europa League. Valladolid are now winless in four matches and find themselves occupying the last relegation spot in La Liga. Three points separate them from Girona who are currently five positions clear of safety, so this is a huge stretch for Valladolid’s La Liga life. Valladolid have never beaten Alaves at home in La Liga, but have did win three on the road in La Liga 2. Alaves gets a huge three points.
West Brom (-120) vs Hull (+333) – Draw (+333)
With just four games remaining before the Championship playoffs, West Brom host Hull with both teams having their eye on returning to the Premier League. West Brom look safe in the playoffs as they are currently nine points clear of 7th place Boro. Hull almost have to win out to make it to the playoffs as they currently sit on 60 points and are five points out of the playoffs. Hull have won just two of their last 10 road games and have won just two out of seven road matches at West Brom. West Brom gets the three points.
