The final of the 2019 Copa America is set to be determined Wednesday in a battle against two nations who have done well in the past, but are not considered big fish in the pond. Chile vs Peru for a spot in the final on Wednesday night.

Chile are the 5th most successful team at the Copa America, in regards to Top 4 finishes, with 21 top 4 finishes and are looking to win their third straight Copa America title. Wednesday will be Chile’s 21st semifinal appearance, in the Copa America/South American Championship, and the back-to-back champions boast a dreadful 6-14 record in previous semifinals of this tournament.

Peru are the 6ht most successful team at the Copa America, in regards to Top 4 finishes, with 15 top 4 finishes and are looking to play in third final. Wednesday will be Peru’s 16th semifinal appearance in the Copa America/South American championship and the Peruvian’s hold an awful 2-13 record on previous semifinal appearances.

Who will be the final team to enter the Copa America final? Below is my pick for Peru vs Chile.

Chile (-111) vs Peru (+350): Draw (+210)

Chile faced a tough Colombia team, who did not give up a regulation goal, in the quarterfinals and advanced after winning in penalties. Prior to the Colombia match Chile beat Japan 4-0, Ecuador 2-1 and lost to Uruguay 1-0. Chile has outscored opponents 7-2 so far this tournament and are favorite to advance to their third consecutive Copa America final.

Peru played their typical tough defense, and used VAR to their advantage, to force Uruguay to penalties and allow Peru to advance 1-0 after penalties. Uruguay scored two goals, and had multiple opportunities to score more goals, but VAR took those two goals off and allowed Peru to get to penalties. Peru drew 0-0 against Venezuela, beat Bolivia 3-1 and lost to Brazil 5-0 before this Uruguay win.

I like Chile to get the win and play for the third consecutive Copa America title.

The two nations have met 81 times in the past and Chile holds a commanding 45-14-22 advantage. Peru won the most recent meeting, a 2018 friendly, 3-0, but were on a four game losing streak prior.
