Monday night soccer is back! The Bundesliga returns this weekend with a full schedule and the final game will take place on Monday, May 18, 2020 as Werder Bremen hosts Bayer Leverkusen. This game will air live at 2:30 p.m. EST on FS2.
Werder Bremen is in big trouble of going down next season as they currently sit in 17th place, with 18 points, and are eight points behind safety. One goal for Bremen the rest of the way will be to try and at least catch Dusseldorf to get into the relegation playoff. If Bremen were to go down, it would be their first season out of the Bundesliga since the 1980-81 season.
Bayer Leverkusen currently sit in fifth place, which is the first Europa League spot, but are in a tight battle to get into the Champions League spots. Leverkusen trail Monchengladbach by two points, RB Leipzig by three points, and Borussia Dortmund by four points.
Below is my pick for the Bundesliga action between Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen. All odds are from BetRivers Indiana Sportsbook.
Werder Bremen (+360) vs Bayer Leverkusen (-135) Draw (+280)
Werder Bremen have been on a downward spiral since coming back from the winter break as they are winless in seven of their nine games and were winless in their last five prior to this forced break. Last time out Bremen was able to come away with a 2-2 draw at Hertha Berlin but will need to stack some wins if they want to stay in the first division. Bremen are the worst home team in the league having won just one of their 11 games this season. Werder Bremen will be without Davy Klaassen, who is suspended, and Niclas Fullkrug, Kevin Mohwald, and Omer Toprak are all doubtful.
This forced break could not have come at a worse time for Bayer Leverkusen as they were on a 10-match unbeaten run and had won their last three games. In their last game before the break Leverkusen went to Scotland and came away with a 3-1 win over Rangers in the Europa League. Bayer Leverkusen are the third best road club in Germany having won seven of their 12 games this season. The only person on the injury report is Kevin Volland who is doubtful with a foot injury.
Series History: These two clubs have played some tight affairs recently as they have drawn three out of their last five matchups and each team has won once on the road.
Game Prediction: Give me Bayer Leverkusen -135 on Monday.
