Africa Cup of Nations Picks and Predictions – July 1st

Africa Cup of Nations Picks and Predictions – July 1st

Two more groups come to an end on Monday as both Group C and Group D are set for action. Group C will feature Algeria vs Tanzania and Senegal vs Kenya while Group D will feature Ivory Coast vs Namibia and Morocco vs South Africa.

Group C standing through two games are: Algeria – 6 points, Senegal – 4 points, Kenya 3 points and Tanzania – 0 points

Group D standings through two games are: Morocco – 6 points, Ivory Coast – 3 points, South Africa – 3 points and Namibia – 0 points.

Here are my picks for Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations games.

Ivory Coast (-333) vs Namibia (+1100): Draw (+375)

Ivory Coast are in good position to enter the knockout stages, but they would all but wrap up a spot with a win on Monday. The Ivory Coast opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over South Africa and then disappointingly fell to Morocco 1-0 in the second group stage game.

Namibia have been playing tough defense, but have not looked threatening at all in the offensive zone through two games. Namibia started the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Morocco and then followed that up with a 1-0 loss to South Africa.

The Ivory Coast gets the win.

The two have met twice in the past and the series is tied 1-0-1. Namibia won the most recent meeting, in January 2018, 1-0.

Morocco (+104) vs South Africa (+280): Draw (+220)

Morocco are perfect so far this tournament and are now looking to ensure positioning on the final 16. The Moroccan’s have played similar games so far in beating Namibia 1-0 and then beating the Ivory Coast by the same score.

South Africa might already be in the final 16, but a point, and especially a win, will see their chances improve greatly. The South Africans lost to Ivory Coast 1-0 in their opening game before beating Namibia 1-0 in their second game.

I like this one to end in a draw.

The two nations have met six times in the past and it is Morocco that leads 2-3-1. The two have not played since 2013 when they played two times and came away with two draws.

Senegal (-227) vs Kenya (+900): Draw (+275)

Senegal look primed for the knockout stage and a win Sunday will ensure their spot in the final 16. Senegal opened up their AFCON campaign with a 2-0 win over Tanzania before falling to Algeria 1-0 in their most recent group stage game.

Kenya are also in a good position to make the knockout stages and probably need just one point to ensure their spit. Kenya fell 2-0 to Algeria and beat Tanzania 3-2 so far this tournament.

Senegal gets the win Monday.

The two nations have met four times in the past and Senegal leads 3-1-0. Senegal have won the last three meetings by a combined 7-0 score.

Algeria (-303) vs Tanzania (+1000): Draw (+350)

Algeria have come away with two solid wins to start their 2019 AFCON campaign and are now playing for knockout round positioning. Algeria opened up their campaign with a 2-0 win over Kenya and followed that up with a nice 1-0 win over Senegal.

Tanzania are playing for pride at this point and really put up a nice fight in an exciting 3-2 loss to Kenya last time out. The Tanzanians opened up their 2019 AFCON campaign with a 2-0 loss to Senegal.

Algeria cruises to a win.

These two nations have met 10 times in the past and it is Algeria that leads 5-4-1.  Algeria are unbeaten in the last eight meetings and have won the last two by a combined 11-1 score.
