Key Storylines
Recent Form
Washington has won six of its past eight games and they turned a 2–0 deficit into a 4–2 victory over Toronto in their last game. Jakob Chychrun scored again, extending his streak to five straight outings with a goal, while Anthony Beauvillier delivered the equalizer in the third period. Tom Wilson added an empty-net finish to close things out. The Caps will look for a fourth win in five games with a victory on the road here.
The Islanders enter this game after a difficult stretch. They have gone 1–2–1 in their current homestand and were dealt a major blow when forward Kyle Palmieri was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL. His scoring touch and experience will be missed in New York’s forward group.
Goaltending
New York has leaned on David Rittich in net lately. He recently secured a 1–0 shootout win over Seattle. Rittich’s numbers are very similar to those of starting netminder Ilya Sorokin and the Islanders will be largely steady in net regardless of which of those two are in net.
Washington has been steadier in net, with Logan Thompson making key stops late in games. His strong third-period work against Toronto ensured the Capitals stayed within striking distance before their scoring picked up. Thompson has a very strong 2.15 GAA for the season.
Key Skaters
Jakob Chychrun is the hottest skater entering this contest with goals in five straight games for the Caps. Wilson continues to deliver physical play paired with timely scoring. Beauvillier has also played a strong supporting role since being elevated in the lineup.
The Islanders, beyond losing Palmieri, are also missing center Jean-Gabriel Pageau due to an upper-body issue. The drop-off has been clear in their lineup, especially at even strength.

Final Thoughts
Washington is playing better hockey than the Islanders of late and they are the healthier team going into this contest. I’ll take the Caps to get the win on the road over an Islanders team that is heading in the wrong direction of late.
