Both of these fighters have hovered inside the top ten of featherweight for quite some time. Josh Emmett is so wildly deserving of this opportunity, and it is amazing to see. His five fight win streak since his return from injury is telling of that deserving nature, and we here at ATS have cashed on most of those. Emmett has a strong wrestling game, so the fight will take place in the stand up. He will be able to dictate the fight in the standup, even if his opponent does not want it there. Emmett has thrown more volume of light, and is an educated striker, but he has a true difference maker, and that is the power in his hands. He has bombed on even the best of chins.
Yair Rodriguez is not on any sort of winning streak, but it makes sense to create this fight for the promotion. Rodriguez is off a win due to injury and getting dismantled by Max Holloway, while simultaneously showing heart and capability. Rodriguez will have the more diversified striking attack in this matchup, but it will be a volume based one. Rodriguez may have the volume edge and is at least equally likely to take rounds. However, Rodriguez gets hit a great deal by capable strikers. I believe the styles create a scenario where Rodriguez will have to survive bombs that few, if any, have survived before.

Despite not getting finishes in his last three fights, he still had three knockdowns in those matchups. The difference in this matchup than say the ones with Kattar and Burgos, is Rodriguez will not be constantly in his face with a jab or tie up. Emmett will have opportunities to sit back, perhaps eat some volume, but also to set up the one bomb to end the fight. There will not be the frantic pace that he faced recently.
