Key Storylines
- Colorado must overcome the loss of Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. Both of them departed for the NFL and their absences will be felt on the field for the Buffs in their opener.
- Kaidon Salter is expected to take snaps at QB for Colorado. The Liberty transfer threw for nearly 1,900 yards, 15 TDs, and also ran for six scores last season. But he did so against a weak schedule and will face a step up in level of competition here.
- Georgia Tech returns a stable offensive front around senior QB Haynes King. King threw for over 2,100 yards and 14 TDs in 2024. He is also a dual-threat quarterback and can break the pocket to make plays with his legs.
- Georgia Tech’s new defensive coordinator Blake Gideon will look to turn things around on that side of the ball for the Yellow Jackets.
- Colorado’s offensive line and run game remain major unknowns. Their offensive line was a major weakness last year despite portal reinforcements. That could put additional pressure on Salter to perform right away for Deion Sanders’ squad.
Betting Trends & H2H
This is the first-ever meeting between Georgia Tech and Colorado in college football. The contrast in styles between these programs is interesting heading into this game. Georgia Tech is a team that likes to grind its opponents down and has a ton of continuity on offense. Colorado is all about disrupting the college football landscape under Sanders and is making a ton of changes on offense. It will be fascinating to see how those approaches interact on the field in Week 1.

Final Thoughts
I think that there are too many moving parts for Colorado to have sustained success in this game. The Buffaloes should be fine long-term with Salter as their quarterback. But Georgia Tech should hit the ground running thanks to an offense that has spent way more time on the field together at the most important positions. I’ll take Georgia Tech to cover the number as a favorite on the road here.
