Army and UAB will do battle in college football on Saturday afternoon. Army has struggled to replicate the success that they had a season ago and will try to avoid a 1-4 start against a UAB team that can get to 3-2 with a win at home here. Before kickoff from Birmingham, keep reading to get my thoughts on this game, including my Army vs UAB prediction.

Army vs UAB Odds
Spread | Moneyline | Total |

Army –6.5 | Army –270, UAB +220 | 57.5 |
Key Storylines
- Running vs. Passing Identity: Army ranks among the national leaders in rushing yards per game thanks to its option offense. They rarely throw the football and prefer to bludgeon opponents on the ground. UAB is much more pass-oriented, with Jalen Kitna throwing for over 1,200 yards already. That clash of styles will be a lot of fun to monitor throughout this game.
- UAB’s Weakness Against the Run: UAB’s rush defense ranks poorly, allowing over 220 rushing yards per game. Army’s ground game should be able to dictate tempo and chew clock while gaining chunk yardage on the ground.
- Penalty & Discipline Gap: UAB averages around 52.8 penalty yards per game, while Army leads the FBS with just 19.8 penalty yards per game. That discrepancy in discipline could matter in a game where the point spread is just a touchdown.
- Conference Implications: Neither team has a conference win yet. Both teams are in desperate need of some momentum and will try to avoid remaining winless in the AAC standings.
Quarterback Play
Dewayne Coleman has thrown just 18 completions on 32 attempts with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His value is more as a runner. He leads Army in rushing yardage and his legs are more important than his arm.
UAB’s Jalen Kitna has already thrown for 1,256 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. He enters this game with an impressive completion rate of 72%. In his most recent game at Tennessee, he threw for 364 yards and two scores while tying a school record for completions. UAB is banking heavily on his arm to put points on the board.
Betting Trends

- UAB is 2-2 against the spread for the year.
- Army games have gone 2-2 on the over/under market this season.
- All four UAB games this season have gone over their totals.
Army vs UAB Model Projection
Projected Score: Army 35 – UAB 28
Win Probability: Army 65%, UAB 35%
Final Thoughts
Army is known for dictating games with their rushing attack and chewing clock whenever possible. But I think that this game is a great opportunity to cash an Army over. The Black Knights should be able to pick up chunk yardage on the ground against a bad UAB run defense. And UAB’s potent passing attack should give the Army defense headaches as well. My best bet for this contest is for it to go over the total.
