South Carolina On Cusp Of Third Title In Four Years
Dawn Staley has led the South Carolina Gamecocks to two championships in the last three seasons. Now the Gamecocks are one win away from getting a third title in four years if they can hold serve as the one-seed going into this national championship game. South Carolina beat Texas 74-57 in their national semifinal on Friday, holding Texas to just 22 points in the final 20 minutes of action. The defense for Staley’s team will be the determining factor in this matchup with UConn.
South Carolina only attempted 11 three-point shots against Texas in the Final Four. But they made seven of those outside shots, with Te-Hina Paopao making three of her four attempts from the outside. How efficient the Gamecocks are from the perimeter in this game will be something to monitor, while they continue to try to wear opponents down with their physicality inside the arc at the same time.
During the regular season, UConn demolished South Carolina by a score of 87-58 on the Gamecocks’ home floor.
