Odds from Sportzino
Ryan Crouser is the odds-on favorite to win the Olympic men’s shot put event at the Paris Olympics. He has won the last two Olympic golds in this event, getting the job done in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. He has also won world championships in 2022 and 2023, along with the indoor world championships in 2024. In the last Olympics, Crouser threw further than anyone in the field in five of his six throws in the final round, making him a deserved favorite once again here.
Olympic Men’s Shot Put Major Storylines
The dominance of Ryan Crouser is easily the top storyline when it comes to the Olympic men’s shot put in these games. Not only does Crouser have a chance to win a third straight Olympic gold in this event, but he also has a chance to beat his own Olympic record, which he set in Tokyo during his last run to the gold. While the running events are usually the more marquee events of the Olympic track and field program, Crouser is must-watch whenever he is up to throw.
Whether or not Joe Kovacs of the United States can finally work his way past Crouser is another huge storyline going into these Olympics in the shot put. Kovacs has finished second to Crouser in each of the last two Olympics and hasn’t been able to take gold from him in any event since. But a gold medal here on the biggest stage would erase some of the pain of finishing second to Crouser so often.
Olympic Men’s Shot Put Medal Contenders
Along with Crouser and Kovacs, the other top contender to win a medal in the Olympic men’s shot put is Leonard Fabbri of Italy. Fabbri has yet to win an Olympic medal in his career, but does have a personal best that would put him in contention with Crouser if the American were to bring anything but his best to Paris. It is tough to see anyone from outside of the top-three favorites winning a medal, but you never know for sure in this or any sport.
Men’s Shot Put Betting Prediction: Ryan Crouser (-189)
Our pick to win the gold medal in the Olympic men’s shot put is Ryan Crouser of the United States. Crouser has proven time and time again that he is able to bring his best throws to the biggest moments in Olympic competitions. We expect him to do the same here and to get himself to the top of the podium yet again for the United States.
