Last time out, Croatia advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win, after penalties, over Japan. This was a tense game that saw this Croatian side have to come from behind to get the win.
Japan got the scoring started in the 43rd minute when Daizen Maeda pounced on a loose ball in the back and made it 1-0. Croatia tied the game up in the 55th minute with a bullet of a header by Ivan Perisic. The Croatians were the better team in the second half, but neither team could break the deadlock.
In penalties, Japan had three poor penalties saved and Croatia made three of theirs to get the win.
Brazil
Brazil advanced to the next stage with an unbelievable 4-1 win over South Korea. The first half was the most impressive half of soccer we have seen at the 2022 World Cup, and Brazil showed why they were the pre-tournament favorites.
Vini Junior got the party started with a beautiful goal in the seventh minute, and Neymar quickly made it 2-0 after burying a penalty in the 13th minute. Richarlison finished off a fantastic team goal in the 29th minute to make it 3-0, and Lucas Paqueta finished off the first half barrage with a goal in the 36th minute. South Korea got a consolation goal in the 76th minute with a Seung-Ho Paik goal.
