Key Storylines
Recent form
The Blackhawks are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken, where rookie Connor Bedard notched an assist to extend his point streak to five games. Chicago has lost three games in a row and their strong start to the season is starting to slip away. Vancouver has gone 7-7 to start and is not far ahead in form, but they have won two of their last three games. Vancouver’s penalty kill will be their big question going into this game, as it has really struggled with a 69.4% success rate.
Goaltending
Chicago’s expected starter is Spencer Knight, who has a 2.63 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage with very strong ‘goals saved above expected’ numbers. Vancouver’s net is expected to be occupied by Thatcher Demko. Demko is 5-4 this season and has a 2.57 GAA. These netminders are very evenly matched going into this contest in Canada.
Key skaters
Chicago’s Connor Bedard continues to shine despite the cracks in the roster around him. Forward Andre Burakovsky is also developing a points streak of his own. The Blackhawks’ young core is producing, but depth remains a question for them. Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland are the main catalysts for the Canucks. Vancouver’s secondary scoring has been spotty, but Sherwood’s nine goals and Garland’s eight assists have helped them remain competitive.

Final Thoughts
Chicago has been incredible on the puckline to start the season, so I don’t feel quite comfortable laying the puckline with Vancouver here. But I will take the Canucks to win as a moneyline favorite at home. Chicago has dropped five of its seven road games to start this season and I expect their struggles away from the Windy City to continue on Wednesday night.
