Key Storylines
- Ravens’ Offensive Firepower: Quarterback Lamar Jackson enters his third season under offensive coordinator Todd Monken. He aims to build on a season where he threw for 3,200 yards and 28 touchdowns. The addition of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins provides another reliable target and Derrick Henry remains a threat on the ground for Baltimore.
- Bills’ Defensive Concerns: The Bills’ defense faces challenges with key injuries. Cornerback Tre’Davious White is one of the starters for the Bills that is questionable for this game. White being compromised could compromise their ability to contain the Ravens’ high-powered offense. Their secondary depth will be tested against Baltimore’s versatile passing game.
- Playoff Rematch: The Bills beat the Ravens in the Divisional playoffs last season. A dropped two-point conversion by Mark Andrews ended a late comeback attempt by Baltimore in that game. Baltimore could be better now that Lamar Jackson isn’t dealing with playoff pressure in this contest.
Quarterback Play
Lamar Jackson is coming off a season where he led the Ravens to a 12–5 record but his team fell short in the playoffs again. Not all of Baltimore’s playoff struggles have been Jackson’s fault and he was very good against the Bills in the playoffs last year. But this season is another defining year for Jackson’s legacy as he looks to prove doubters wrong in big games.
Josh Allen continues to be the centerpiece of the Bills’ offense. He won the NFL MVP award last season over the aforementioned Jackson. He will have to overcome injury concerns for wide receiver Khalil Shakir to deliver another strong performance against the Ravens.

Final Thoughts
I don’t think we should put too much stock into the Bills beating the Ravens in the playoffs last year. That game was incredibly close and was in a freezing cold Buffalo during the playoffs. The warmer weather will help Lamar Jackson play to his full potential and the addition of Hopkins won’t hurt him either. Jackson has already proven he can beat the Bills in the regular season and I think the Ravens will do so again here.
