New York Mets at Atlanta Braves Game 2 Pick For 9/30/2024

All of the pressure will be on either the Atlanta Braves or New York Mets when they face off in the second game of their double-header from Truist Park on Monday. With a trip to the postseason having been secured by one of these teams in the first game of this double-header, this will be an elimination game for the team that dropped Game 1. Here, we break down Mets vs Braves Game 2 and determine who we like to come out on top in this crucial contest.

Mets vs Braves Game 2 Scenarios

The playoff scenarios for the second game of the Mets vs Braves double-header are pretty straightforward. The team that won the first game of the double-header is already through to the playoffs. Meanwhile, if the team that lost Game 1 wins Game 2, they will join the Game 1 winners as the final Wild Card team. If the team that won Game 1 secures a sweep in Game 2, they will eliminate the loser from the playoffs, with the Arizona Diamondbacks qualifying instead.

Mets Hoping to Relieve Pressure In Game 2

The New York Mets’ day could go in any number of directions on Monday. They could end up winning Game 1 today and guarantee themselves a playoff spot no matter what happens in Game 2. Or they could lose Game 1 and face all of the pressure in the world in this second game, which would then become an elimination game for them.

The Mets will start Luis Severino going into the second game of this crucial day of action. Severino is 11-7 with a 3.91 ERA, coming off of a loss in his last start, where he gave up four earned runs in four innings of work against these same Atlanta Braves. It will be interesting to see how Severino responds to that lackluster outing in this game, which could mean the difference between the Mets making the playoffs and starting their offseason.

Atlanta’s Ace Set to Throw In Game 2

For the Atlanta Braves, Chris Sale is set to get the start for this potential do-or-die Game 2 from Truist Park. Sale is all but assured the NL Cy Young award for his work this season, as he leads the league with an 18-3 record and a 2.38 ERA. If the Braves do end up needing to win this game to go to the playoffs, Sale is certainly the man for the job to help them get there.

Of course, it is possible that the Braves win Game 1 of today’s double-header and they decide that they don’t need Sale once Game 2 actually arrives. That could mean a shortened day of work for Sale, or he could be scratched entirely if they decide that this second game is no longer a priority. At the very least, bettors should be careful betting this game without knowing what each team needs to accomplish with respect to their postseason aspirations.

Mets vs Braves Game 2 Best Bet

Based on the pitching matchup we have now, it is hard not to believe that the Atlanta Braves will win Game 2 and lock up a spot in the postseason. We will see how the pitching matchup changes based on the result of the first game and which team has the upper hand going into this game. But for now we will back the Braves, who could very well complete a sweep and send the Mets home.
