Key Storylines
Alabama enters the game 1-1 after dropping its season opener to Florida State. But they rebounded strongly in Week 2 with a 73-0 win over UL Monroe. The Crimson Tide offense put up a ton of points last week but they struggled against their only power conference opponent this season. Wisconsin is 2-0 with wins over Miami (OH) and Middle Tennessee but has not faced a defense anywhere close to Alabama’s caliber. The Badgers’ offensive line will be tested as they attempt to create running lanes for Dillin Jones and the rest of their backs.
The question for Alabama is whether the offense can produce enough explosive plays. Quarterback Ty Simpson has shown flashes with 480 yards and five touchdowns through two games. But his play against high-level opponents is an unknown at this point.
Quarterback Play
Wisconsin quarterback Danny O’Neil has just over 200 yards per game early in the season. He has thrown four touchdown passes and two interceptions against low-level competition early on. This test against a much better defense will tell us a lot about him as a quarterback.
Ty Simpson’s dual-threat ability could be a problem for Wisconsin. His ability to extend plays outside the pocket may neutralize the Badgers’ aggressive front seven. Simpson will look to continue establishing a connection with wide receiver Germie Bernard. Bernard has 213 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns through two weeks.

Alabama should win this game at home over a Wisconsin team that hasn’t looked overly impressive against inferior competition. But I do think that taking the points with Wisconsin is the right move from a betting standpoint. The Badgers will try to run the ball and bleed the clock. They aren’t likely to win the game outright, but Wisconsin will do enough to keep possessions to a minimum and cover the number respectably.
