Key Storylines
- Texas’ Offensive Questions: Quarterback Arch Manning has been the subject of scrutiny this year for the Texas Longhorns. Texas answered their critics with a 55-0 win over Sam Houston in their last game. But they are facing a higher level of competition here and will need to prove they can play at a high level against an SEC team this weekend.
- Florida’s Struggles: The Gators have gone 1-3 to start this season, including a 26-7 loss to Miami. They are looking to rebound in front of their home crowd but will need to be better on offense to make that happen. The Gators have scored 11 points per game over their last three games and that certainly won’t cut it against the Longhorns.
- Coaching Pressure: Florida head coach Billy Napier’s job security is under scrutiny. That only adds extra pressure on him and the Gators to deliver a strong performance.
Quarterback Play
Texas: Arch Manning has had an up-and-down start to the 2025 season. He has 888 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions for the year. His dual-threat capabilities make him a constant threat to opposing defenses with both his arm and his legs. But his passing efficiency has to improve for Texas to be a playoff team later in the year.
Florida: Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway has shown flashes of potential but has struggled for the most part. He is averaging under 200 passing yards per game with five touchdowns and six interceptions. He is clearly the second-best quarterback in this game despite Manning’s early struggles.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Texas: The Longhorns are 1-3 against the spread to start this season. They have seen three of their first four games go under their totals.
- Florida: The Gators are also 1-3 against the spread in their first four games. All four games have gone under their totals.
- Head-to-Head: Texas leads the all-time series 3-0-1, including a 26-0 victory in their only previous trip to Gainesville in 1940. Texas won their only modern-day meeting 49-17 in 2024.

Final Thoughts
This is going to be a very interesting game on both sides, as both teams need to prove themselves amid questions surrounding their offenses. Texas should ultimately come away with the win, but I don’t like the idea of laying over a touchdown with this Longhorns offense on the road. I’ll take the 7.5 points with Florida with the expectation that this game is settled by around a touchdown.
