Key Storylines
- Vanderbilt comes off a 34‑31 loss on the road at Texas that wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. That loss means that Vandy needs to win out and get plenty of help to get into the College Football Playoff.
- Auburn has endured a difficult stretch in SEC play. The Tigers stand at 4‑5 overall and just 1‑5 in the SEC. They opted to fire head coach Hugh Freeze this past week and will try to move forward as a program and finish the regular season strong starting with this game.
- Auburn isn’t terrible on defense despite their poor record for the season. The Tigers have allowed 17.7 points per game for the season and rank highly in FBS in that category. But their offense needs to produce more to take advantage of everything their defense has done.
- Vanderbilt’s home‑field advantage has been impactful so far this year. The Commodores have yet to drop a game at home this season and their two losses have come at Texas and at Alabama in two of the toughest players to play in all of college football. Vandy will try to stay perfect at home against a struggling program here.
Quarterback Play
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia has thrown for 2,063 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He also leads the team in rushing with 501 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold has recorded 1,278 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on 63.3% passing. But Auburn’s replacing Arnold with Ashton Daniels, who struggled to move the ball against Kentucky in Auburn’s last game.
Betting Trends
- Vanderbilt is 6-2-1 against the spread so far this season.
- Auburn is 3-5-1 against the spread going into this matchup.
- Vandy is 5-4 favoring the over through nine games this year.
- The under has cashed in seven of Auburn’s first nine games.

Final Thoughts
These teams are moving in opposite directions going into this matchup. Vandy is on an upward trajectory and Auburn is in a rebuilding phase for their program. I expect both programs to continue moving in those opposite directions. I’ll lay the points with Vandy in this matchup, as they should move the ball effectively and dominate the time of possession battle thanks to more struggles from Daniels and the Auburn offense.
