- The Riders have found a spark at quarterback in Jake Dolegala, who threw three touchdown passes against the BC Lions in Week 11. He will help keep this game close.
- Saskatchewan has a winning record at home this season, going 3-2 at Mosaic Stadium this year.
- Winnipeg has barely snuck by the Elks and Stampeders in their last two road games, and this one will be close as well.
Labour Day weekend in the CFL is here, which means the Labour Day Classic weekend of games. One such matchup takes place on Sunday in Saskatchewan, as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Here, we make our CFL betting picks for Blue Bombers vs Roughriders, in a game where a relatively new quarterback could make a huge difference for the group in green.
Blue Bombers vs Roughriders Betting Pick
Roughriders +7.5 over Blue Bombers
Why Bet on the Roughriders:
✅ Jake Dolegala has been a substantial upgrade in terms of backup quarterback play over Mason Fine. That will help the Riders to keep this game within a touchdown, after Dolegala threw three touchdowns against the Lions last week.
✅ The Blue Bombers have been inconsistent on the road, barely squeaking by the Elks and Stampeders in recent weeks.
✅ Saskatchewan is 3-2 at home so far this year, and their defense has been respectable at the Mosaic Stadium lately.
This game will be played at Mosaic Stadium at 7:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have won five games in a row to arrive at the top of the West Division with an 8-2 record. However, their path to that win streak has been anything but easy, as they have survived single-digit games on the road against Edmonton and Calgary during that stretch. On Sunday, they will look for a more convincing performance against Saskatchewan.
For Winnipeg to do that, protecting Zach Collaros is a must. We have seen him get hurt on the road against Edmonton in recent weeks due to a lack of consistent pass protection. They have to address that concern in order to extend their winning streak to six.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders come into the Labour Day Classic at 5-5, as they enter off of a bye week after beating the BC Lions at home in Week 11. While the Riders have not been great this year by any means, they have improved as the season has gone on. Sitting just two games back of second place in the West Division, this is a huge opportunity at home to gain ground on the struggling BC Lions.
The pass rush of Saskatchewan will be the key to this game, but the play of Jake Dolegala will receive the bulk of the attention. Dolegala was legitimately excellent against BC a couple of weeks ago. If he can reclaim that form after the bye week, the Riders could threaten to steal a playoff spot from BC as this season wears on.
