Edmonton has answered every question following its lone defeat of the season and has looked like one of the CFL’s most balanced clubs through the opening six weeks. The Elks own one of the league’s strongest rushing attacks, while their secondary has forced turnovers at a high rate with six interceptions entering Week 7. BC has already shown it can slow Justin Rankin, limiting him to one of his quietest games of the season in the first meeting, but asking the Lions to duplicate that effort on the road is a much tougher assignment.
The bye week should help BC get healthier and better prepared, and Nathan Rourke has historically played well against Edmonton. Even so, Edmonton enters with greater consistency on both sides of the ball and now benefits from home-field advantage after dropping the first meeting. A close, entertaining game feels likely, but the Elks have enough offensive balance to pull away late and cover the number.

The dynamic back already has 513 rushing yards, 297 receiving yards, and 7 total touchdowns through five games, making him one of the league’s leading Most Outstanding Player candidates. But Edmonton’s success on the ground should help keep the clock moving and keep this game under the total.
BC Lions vs Edmonton Elks Game Preview
The first meeting between these clubs provided one of the biggest surprises of the season. BC entered without a victory but produced its most complete performance, forcing turnovers, slowing Edmonton’s rushing attack, and allowing Nathan Rourke to control the game. That victory snapped Edmonton’s unbeaten start while giving the Lions confidence entering their bye week.
Now the circumstances have changed. Edmonton returns home after a dominant performance against Ottawa, where Cody Fajardo directed an efficient offense and the defense forced several key mistakes. The Elks have shown greater balance than in previous seasons, relying on a productive rushing attack while still generating explosive passing plays with Austin Mack becoming more involved over the past two games. Mack totaled 235 receiving yards across his previous two contests after a slower opening month, giving Edmonton another dangerous option alongside Rankin.
Rankin remains the centerpiece of the offense. His ability to produce as both a runner and receiver has created difficult decisions for opposing defenses every week. Even after being limited by BC in Week 5, he still enters Friday among the CFL’s statistical leaders with more than 800 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns through five games. If Edmonton establishes the run early, Fajardo should benefit from favorable throwing situations against a BC secondary that has surrendered several explosive plays this season.
BC’s hopes begin with Nathan Rourke. The veteran quarterback remains undefeated in his career against Edmonton and has consistently created problems for the Elks through his accuracy and ability to extend plays. The Lions also receive the benefit of additional preparation following their bye, something that has helped them play better during the second half of previous seasons. If Rourke can establish an early connection with his receiving group, BC has enough firepower to stay within one score throughout the evening.
Defensively, the Lions will again attempt to crowd the line of scrimmage and force Edmonton into obvious passing situations. That formula worked in the previous meeting, but repeating it away from home is a difficult task. Edmonton’s offensive line has played well for much of the season, and the Elks should enter this contest with several players returning to full availability after appearing on earlier injury reports. BC also expects key contributors such as Ben Hladik and T.J. Lee to suit up despite being monitored during the practice week.
Expect another entertaining game with plenty of offense. BC should be sharper after the bye and Rourke is capable of producing several explosive drives. Edmonton, however, enters with the stronger overall roster, a productive rushing attack, home-field advantage, and greater week-to-week consistency. Those advantages make the Elks my preferred side, with a projected four-point victory that will end with the Elks covering the spread.
