Ottawa heads to Winnipeg on Friday night still searching for its first win of the 2026 CFL season, while the Blue Bombers are trying to steady their season after consecutive losses. The teams already produced one of the wildest games of the CFL campaign in July, when Winnipeg erased a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit before winning 36-34 in overtime at TD Place. The rematch carries a very different feel, however, with Ottawa coming off a 42-20 loss in Saskatchewan and Winnipeg entering after a 35-19 home loss to BC.
Ottawa Redblacks vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers Pick

Ottawa Redblacks vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers Model Projection
- Score Projection: Ottawa Redblacks 24 – Winnipeg Blue Bombers 32
- Win Probability: Ottawa Redblacks 28%, Winnipeg Blue Bombers 72%
Winnipeg gets the nod because the matchup gives the Bombers several advantages that outweigh their recent defensive problems. The Blue Bombers have already beaten Ottawa this season, and that game showed that Winnipeg can withstand a difficult start against this opponent. Dru Brown threw for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns in his return to Ottawa, while Nic Demski produced 90 receiving yards and a score.
The biggest concern for Winnipeg is that its defence has been giving up too many explosive plays. The Bombers allowed 35 points to BC in their most recent game and had allowed 208 points through 7 games. Ottawa has also struggled badly on defence, allowing 289 points in its first 8 games according to the latest CFL standings available through the league’s official data. The combination suggests another high-scoring contest, but Winnipeg’s home-field advantage, superior record and stronger running game give it enough of an edge to cover the current number.

Ottawa Redblacks vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers Game Preview
There is plenty of recent history to consider before placing a wager on this rematch. Ottawa appeared to have Winnipeg beaten in the teams’ July meeting, leading by 17 points in the fourth quarter before Brown helped the Bombers force overtime. Brown completed 27 of 43 passes for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Tim White led Winnipeg with 97 receiving yards. Demski added 90 yards and a touchdown, and Ontaria Wilson delivered the late touchdown that tied the game.
Ottawa’s side of that game was encouraging despite the eventual defeat. Jake Maier threw for 344 yards and a touchdown on 30 of 40 passing attempts, showing that the Redblacks can move the football against Winnipeg’s secondary. The problem for Ottawa is that its passing production has not translated into enough wins. The Redblacks remain winless and were beaten 42-20 by Saskatchewan in their most recent outing. That loss followed a 34-13 defeat against Montreal and the overtime loss to Winnipeg, leaving Ottawa with 3 consecutive defeats by an average margin of 15 points. The Redblacks also have a difficult road environment ahead of them in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg has its own issues, especially on defence. The Bombers surrendered 35 points to BC after holding a 19-13 lead late in their previous home game. BC’s running game eventually took control, with Zander Horvath rushing for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns. That performance exposed an area Ottawa could try to attack with its ground game, although the Redblacks have not consistently generated enough rushing production to make opponents respect that part of the offence.
The quarterback situation is worth watching closely. Brown has performed well since arriving in Winnipeg, but Zach Collaros has returned to practice and took first-team repetitions on August 9. Collaros was previously placed on the 6-game injured list, so his availability remains an important variable for bettors. The Bombers’ recent offensive production suggests Brown is capable of keeping the unit effective, but any late change at quarterback would affect the projection and should be checked before placing a wager.
Our model lands on Winnipeg 32-24, which produces an 8-point margin and 56 total points. That gives the Bombers a small but meaningful advantage over the current 7.5-point spread while keeping the projected scoring just below the 57.5 point total. The most attractive position is therefore Winnipeg -6.5 rather than attempting to predict another shootout.
