- The Storm made some high-profile moves in the offseason but the Lynx improved their roster as well by bringing in Courtney Williams.
- The size of the Lynx will give them a chance in this contest.
Last year, the Seattle Storm missed the WNBA playoffs, while the Minnesota Lynx qualified for the first round of the postseason. But in the season opener between those two teams here in 2024, the Storm are heavy favorites thanks to the moves they made in the offseason. Here, we give you our WNBA betting picks for Lynx vs Storm in the highly-anticipated debut of the new-look Storm.
This game will be played at 10:00 PM ET at Climate Pledge Arena
Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx had a promising season last year, going 19-21 and finishing sixth in the WNBA standings. They lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Connecticut Sun, but things could have been worse in 2023. This year, the Lynx are largely the same from a roster perspective, but there is some potential for them to move up in the standings this year.
One key move that the Lynx did make this offseason was to bring in Courtney Williams to boost their overall guard quality. Williams is great at getting to her spots in the mid-range and getting to the basket, both of which are sorely needed for this Lynx team. She should fit in nicely around the rest of this roster in 2024.
As for this game, the Lynx need to use their size to make things tough on the Storm. The duo of Napheesa Collier and Dorka Juhasz can really control the glass and make things tough on Seattle, even if there is a ton of hype surrounding the Storm going into this one. But that is always easier said than done in a league with the physicality of the WNBA.
Seattle Storm
Only the Phoenix Mercury were worse than the Seattle Storm last season in the WNBA. But things are likely to change in a hurry for the Storm in 2024, thanks to the moves they made in the offseason. Seattle will look to prove that they are a playoff-caliber team starting with this Lynx vs Storm matchup in their season opener at home.
Seattle brought in Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike before the start of this season, forming an exciting big three along with Jewell Loyd. It will be interesting to see how Loyd and Diggins-Smith share the ball handling duties on this team. But no matter how they share the basketball, this team has the potential to be a threat in the postseason from year one.
The question for this team in their season opener will be their chemistry. Typically, even the best teams in the WNBA have needed time to get their new players on the same page with one another. That could be the case in this game as well, as Seattle’s new stars could struggle against a team with the continuity of the Lynx.
