The NHL season is back and there is two great games Tuesday, October 12th. Tampa Bay begins their second consecutive title defense by hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on ESPN. Last season, Tampa Bay became the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cups since the 2016-2017 Pittsburgh Panthers. These two teams have won four of the past six Stanley Cups. The second game of the opening night double-header features the two newest NHL franchises. Vegas, who was the last expansion team in 2017 host the Seattle Kraken for the team’s first ever game.

The total for the opening game of the NHL season is six goals and that may be too low. Vegas is a much bigger favorite, understandably, as -250 favorites over the Kraken. The puck line is Vegas -1.5 (+110) and the total is 5.5 goals.

Last season, Pittsburgh was second in the league with 3.45 goals per game and Tampa Bay finished seventh with a 3.21 mark. Vegas was third in the NHL with 3.39 goals per game. Vegas did have the best defense in the league with them allowing just 2.18 goals against in the 56-game season. Tampa Bay had the sixth best defense, at 2.59 GAA and Pittsburgh was in the middle, tied at 13th, with a 2.77 GAA.
