Key Storylines
Recent form
The Kings took a 4-1 loss at home against the Colorado Avalanche in their season opener. Los Angeles outshot the Avs 25-23 and won the majority of the game’s faceoffs. But they could not turn those favorable numbers into goals and the Kings will try to bounce back here. This is the first game of the season for the Golden Knights, who will attempt to start this season off strong on home ice, where they have dominated in recent years.
Goaltending
Los Angeles is expected to roll out Anton Forsberg in goal, since Darcy Kuemper started the opener against Colorado and is unlikely to play consecutive nights. Forsberg last season posted an 11–12–3 record, with a 2.72 GAA and a .901 save percentage for the Ottawa Senators. Vegas is likely to counter with Adin Hill in net. Hill had a 2.47 GAA and a .906 save rate in 50 starts last season.
Key skaters
For Vegas, the offseason acquisition of Mitch Marner brings elite playmaking into a forward corps already anchored by Jack Eichel. Marner is expected to slot in alongside Eichel and Ivan Barbashev, creating a high-end attack going into this year. Anze Kopitar logged an assist for the Kings in the first game of his final season on Tuesday night. Kevin Fiala scored the lone goal for the Kings in that contest and he will try to make an impact in this game as well.

Final Thoughts
The Kings are in an unfavorable spot going into this contest in Vegas. Playing a back-to-back right from the start of the season, when players are trying to get their legs back under them, is very difficult on any team. And with Vegas going 29-9-3 at home during the regular season last year, we should see the Knights dominate this matchup for the majority of proceedings. My best bet for this game is to lay the puckline with the Golden Knights, who should get their season started on the right foot.
