This Bruins vs Lightning matchup features two teams that are in the top-four in the Atlantic Division standings heading into Wednesday night. Boston sits at the top of this division on 99 points for the season, while Tampa Bay is in fourth place on 85 points. But the Lightning have a couple of things working in their favor that should help them to win this game at home.
First, the Lightning should have a significant rest edge coming into this matchup. Boston played a thrilling 4-3 game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. And while Boston won that game and helped their chances of winning the Atlantic, they could suffer tonight on tired legs against a Tampa team that has been dominant at home for much of this season. Jeremy Swayman was in net for the Bruins yesterday, which means the slightly less effective Linus Ullmark should be in net tonight.
Also working in Tampa’s favor ahead of this Bruins vs Lightning showdown is that the Lightning have a heightened sense of urgency right now. Tampa is just six points clear of the Detroit Red Wings for fourth place in the Atlantic and the Lightning need to keep winning to avoid relinquishing a playoff spot. The Lightning should be able to get a key win here, coming out sharp against one of the best teams in the NHL.
Tampa has also won seven of their last 10 games coming into this matchup in Florida. They have been playing well and should continue to do so against an opponent that will not be at its best tonight. If nothing else, the Lightning should be heavier favorites than they are tonight, making them worth backing on the moneyline.
