Key Storylines
- Arizona lost running back James Conner for the season this past week. His absence removes a reliable rushing threat and short-yardage complement for Kyler Murray. The Cardinals will need backs like Trey Benson to fill the void left by Conner’s absence.
- Seattle’s defense has been stout through three games. They have not allowed more than 17 points in a game yet this season. Their pass rush and secondary have created pressure and turnovers and they will look to continue doing so this week.
- Special teams has given Seattle extra lifts, including in their win over New Orleans where a punt return for a touchdown by Tory Horton and a blocked punt helped them flip the momentum early.
- Both teams are 2-1 this season and their lone losses have come to the San Francisco 49ers. A win here will put the team that earns it in second place through four weeks and will be huge for the playoff hopes of the winning team.
Quarterback Play
Sam Darnold has looked more comfortable in Weeks 2 and 3 after a shaky start to 2025. He threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans, sitting out the fourth when Seattle had a big lead. His completion percentage and deep ball metrics are solid, and he has found wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba 22 times through three games.
Arizona’s Kyler Murray is dangerous but he struggled in Week 3 with 159 passing yards and one touchdown. Without Conner, Arizona’s reliance on the pass and perhaps more predictable play-calling could make Murray more susceptible to pressure and turnovers. Seattle’s secondary and pass rush could make life difficult for Murray in clutch moments.

Final Thoughts
Both of these teams are 2-1 to start the year, but I think their identical records couldn’t be more different. Arizona’s two wins have come against two of the worst teams in the NFL in the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints. They haven’t proven anything despite having a winning record to begin the year. I will take the Seahawks to win this Thursday night matchup and for Seattle to get their third win in a row.
